Update: February 2011
SFMS Survey pages
Department of Education has announced that the surveys within the VFA web-based database must be completed by March 31, 2011. Last time surveys were due, DOE made a stipulation that if surveys weren't complete by the set due date, schools could not apply for capital funding. It isn't clear if these stipulations are the same this time around, but it can only be assumed.
If you need help completing your surveys, please let us know. There's not much time left to get them done.

Update: August 2009
Informational Letter # 11 released in August 2009 announced that the DOE had finalized their contract for the web-based School Facilities Management System (SFMS) for the use by schools. Implementation is scheduled for September.
Upon completion of the training provided by the DOE, the school's system administrator will be assigned a new username & password to sign into the SFMS program.
If your school has only received the first half of the CAM reimbursement for the facility condition assessment, you will be eligible to receive the second half. However, completion of specific steps, as determined in Informational Letter #11, as well as filling out the survey page are required.
All schools that plan to apply for any type of facilities funding through the DOE, must complete the specific steps to be eligible for such funding.
We can help you with filling out your survey page, and therefore, with getting your refund. Please ask one of our consultants.
In 2003, the Maine DOE began its program known as Capital Asset Management (CAM). This program was intended to provide school districts with capital asset management tools and data with which to meet the expectation that districts were committing appropriate resources on an annual basis to the preservation of their facilities.
Software was provided by the DOE for schools to deposit their facilities data and the program allowed schools to have Facility Condition Assessments completed by an approved vendor. Reimbursement for this assessment was allowed to the school on a 1/2 now, 1/2 later basis.
Many schools in the state of Maine adhered to the process by having a Facility Condition Assessment within the allotted time frame, but many have failed to file for their reimbursement. The reimbursement process may END in DECEMBER 2009, so the opportunity to receive reimbursement may cease to exist.
Our firm has a list of those schools eligible for reimbursement and we have assisted dozens of schools with filing the application for both their first and second reimbursements.
If you'd like to learn more about our CAM Assistance Service, please contact us. We've been 100% successful in getting DOE to pay the money that is owed to Maine schools!
